The Adventures of Cosplaying
Okay, so aside from Psych I'm a pretty big nerd - like, a really big nerd. I go to Anime Conventions every year, and yes I do dress up in costume when I do so. This year I'm going to Anime North at the end of may, and my cosplay of choice is Rita Repulsa. The costume isn't complete yet, but here's some of what I've made.

Re: The Adventures of Cosplaying
Dude, I do the same thing!
Your cosplay is AMAZING. Seriously. I can't believe you managed that in three days. I wish my cosplays turned out that well. D: How much did it cost to do all that?

Errr.....The fabric collectively cost me $50, the chicken wire I used for the hat cost me $20, The staff I lucked out and got all the materials for free because we recently built a shed, and then christmas came around so I had all the cardboard I need. I bought a bunch of poster board from the dollar store and that cost me $10, the cones for the breast plate cost me $8, aaaaaaaaand the paint collectively cost me $40..So this cosplay so far has cost me -
$128.............lol about one month of cable LOL!!
Re: The Adventures of Cosplaying
Wow. O.o Most official cosplays are more expensive, and they don't look as good as that.
It really is awesome.
I haven't seen the anime this is from, but this looks spot-on from the picture.
It really is awesome.

Re: The Adventures of Cosplaying
Rita isn't from an anime lol, she's from the original power rangers series. Back in the 90's when coloured tights were cool.

Re: The Adventures of Cosplaying
Hey, who says tights aren't cool?

But seriously, that's pretty awesome right there. ^.^ If I had the money I'd be going to cons every year, completely in costume with my LARP gear, lol.

I don't have the money =( I work two jobs, and in April I work over time so I can pay bills a month early, then in May I just take the paycheques I get in May as my spending money.

Dude! You are so lucky you've got to go to those conventions. I've only been to one convention (not fully dressed up, but wearing a pikachu hat and yellow shirt) - and it was great! I'm defiantly going to more conventions and comic-cons, but I've never had enough time in the past. I love being a nerd because I get to love going to things like that.
And now onto your costume - it looks amazing. Was it really difficult to make? The staff looks really good - I wouldn't have eve known where to start with making that.

*headdesk* THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I STAY UP UNTIL THREE.
Yeah, real people generally don't appear in anime... >_< Derp.
As for the money - there's a free convention I go to every year. It only costs a lot if you buy a lot of manga or merch, which I have a bad habit of doing, but there's plenty to do other than shop, even though it's a small con. There are free cons in a lot of places, from what I can tell; they just aren't advertised as well. :/

Re: The Adventures of Cosplaying
I'm almost done my armour! I just have to add a little more black paint around the edges -

Re: The Adventures of Cosplaying
Speaking of cosplay -
I'm cosplaying Mello from Death Note this summer, so I decided to save money on the wig by buying it from a friend. The style is pretty close, but the color is wrong. Does anybody know of a good, blonde spray dye? I'm not sure any other kind of dye (even temporary liquid) would work with this material.

No idea, my wig hair wasn't the right colour either, I used spray paint haha. Anyhow I'm here to say that my cosplay for this weekend is officially FINISHED. Viola!

Re: The Adventures of Cosplaying
Oh. My. God. That looks totally awesome.
Have fun at the con! And thanks for the tip.
